Women on Film

Throughout the history of film, even from the earliest days, specifically female-oriented topics have been tackled and strong women have been found on both sides of the camera, as directors, actors and other creative artists. And yet, men have long dominated (and continue to do so today) the profession, and a significant proportion of stories are depicted from the aspect of men. The Film Marathon screens next to Márta Mészáros’ restored masterpiece The Two of Them two silent films where – in the 1910s and 20s – the female character was strong and nuanced, plus two new portrait films showcasing stars of the golden age of Hollywood, charismatic and smart divas who served as role models for millions.
