Bertrand Tavernier

Bertrand Tavernier, who passed away this year, was a multifaceted artist credited as director on 21 feature films and numerous documentaries since the 1970s. In addition, the film director – winner of the Golden and Silver Bear prizes, a double Cézár laureate, holder of the Venice Golden Lion Prize and nominated for an Oscar – was a true, dedicated cinephile crazy about American and French cinema and motion pictures in general. He published several works on Hungarian filmmakers and greatly admired the work of Zoltán Fábri, Károly Makk and Miklós Jancsó among others. We pay tribute to him with several of his remarkable works, among them a real treat: a highly personal documentary on the history of French film.
