Margit Kornai already had a rich and successful career in art, when at age 32, widowed with two children she married Béla Balogh (1885 - 1945). Together they produced 67 movies of which most were silent films. They are still remembered as one of the most prolific Hungarian filmmakers, but for some reason, Margit's name was never included in any cast list.
She was the one to push her then husband (also an actor) in 1916 to launch the film production company, Astra Filmgyár és Filmkölcsönző Rt. Besides the industry the media also recognized “her competence, determination and fine taste which shines through all Astra movies." The papers said that "her original and catchy ideas make her unique" and that she was also "a wonderful director."

She was incredibly sharp, had an undeniable talent for organization and production management, and was a truly visionary and versatile artist. It is time to get familiar with her part in the history of Hungarian cinema.
