The reason this film by John Huston, which when viewed against his oeuvre can by no means be called important or anywhere near a masterpiece, is important for us as Hungarians isbecause whether Hollywood wants to acknowledge it or not, whether Péter Bacsó received financial reward for it or not (he was the one who drew the attention of director Zoltán Fábri to the Ukrainian story, according to which the team of the Start bakery factory beat theteam of the German occupiers twice, in return for which they were machine-gunned), this film is a Hollywood remake of Two Half-Times in Hell. Zoltán Gera stars in both films, and besides him it saw such big-name actors take to the turf of the MTK pitch on Hungária Boulevard as Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone, not to mention such great footballers as Pelé and Bobby Moore, captain of the World Cup-winning British team. However, the budget also covered appearances by Oscaldo Ardiles, Argentine centre forward who played for the world champion team in 1978, and the Pole Kazimir Deyna.
