This year, the festival is also bringing rarely seen treasures of the African film heritage to Budapest. With the support of the French Institute, restored short films from Senegal are shown in three screenings within the Open Archives series. Samba le Grand is a puppet animation about the adventures of legendary African hero Sambagana, who undergoes various trials for the love of the beautiful princess. Narration is by Jean Rouch. La Petite vendeuse de Soleil is the story of a young newspaper seller girl from Dakar, while the hero of Le Franc is a penurious musician who unexpectedly finds fortune smiling on him in the form of a winning (but difficult to redeem) lottery ticket. All the films that have won significant international acclaim have an introduction by a representative of Cinémathèque Afrique.
