This is a Czech comedy, or more precisely, since we are in 1964: a colour, Czechoslovak film satire, which has more to do with the Lucky Luke comics and films, than, say, John Huston or spaghetti Westerns, although there is no doubting that the hearts of the cast were pulled both ways. It contains all the essentials of a Western, there’s the whisky, the bar, Stetson City, the bad dudes, and yet one can say that given the vitality, the naive humour seeded throughout this film, it is far more Czechoslovak than Western. The Wild West and whisky bar instilled in Menzel is also as dangerous in it as a milk bar where curdled milk is served.
