In art, literature and film history, one is used to talking of the impact foreigncreations have had on Hungarian works. However, during the 1930s and 1940s, the opposite happened. A completely new genre was born in Italian filmproduction influenced by Hungarian film comedies, and this was known as “lacommedia all’ungherese”. During these two decades, 13 Italian remakes ofHungarian films were made, more than 30 films played in Hungary, or wereabout Hungarian characters, and numerous Hungarian directors, screenwriters, cinematographers and actors worked in Italian filmmaking. This issue isexamined in this documentary, which includes commentary by, among others, Alessandro Rosselli, author of the volume When Cinecittà Spoke Hungarianpublished in 2005.
