1942. The United States was on the threshold of entering the Second World Warwhen the Hungarian-born film director Mihály Kertész (Michael Curtiz) shot the romantic movie Casablanca. The state leadership backing war propaganda ordered clerks to supervise films being shot, which placed numerous obstacles inthe way of the director. During shooting, he also found himself facing a series of challenges in his private life: news of threats against his sister who had stayed in Hungary and the stormy relationship with his daughter who suddenly turned upall introduced unexpected twists to the plot of Casablanca… The remarkable visual biographical drama won first prize at the 42nd Montreal International Film Festival.
