Painter András Hódosi is disillusioned by the stifling culture policy of the day and so hemakes a break for freedom, not stopping until he reaches the endless Puszta plains of the Hortobágy. But even here the illegal business venture of local political satraps is ruining thenature protected area. The painter makes a hopeless stand against them. In this he is joinedby the daughter of the local chief functionary, and the two fall in love. However, the powerof the oligarchs is absolute and the self-appointed champion of truth is practically blinded:the pilot of the crop-dusting plane sprays chemicals over the incapacitated man. The film’sdisquieting tone is heightened by the contemporary music of Péter Eötvös structured onmoments of silence and curious noises.
