Over the past 100 years, many films have been made of Lake Balaton’s multifaceted image, the diversity of its towns and the spectacular characteristics of its fisheries. The Film Archive has a fine collection of these works, and the genres represented are at least as diverse as the topic itself. In this compilation, we evoke the inimitable Balaton feeling from the 1950s, when the ‘Hungarian sea’ truly became a national treasure for society as a whole. These rarely screened propaganda films paint a fascinating picture of the development of Hungarian mass resort tourism, and familiar spots and old beach equipment are sure to awaken memories in many.
