Based on Zoltán Kodály’s folk opera in four acts about the Hungarian Baron Munchausen, this fascinating made-for-TV animation is a fine example of animation made for music. While both the story and the character design is not free from grotesque humour, folkloristic ornaments are the main source of inspiration in the construction of the visual design of the film.
