The Petőfi Society celebrated the 70th birthday of József Kiss, poet laureate, in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Flags in the national colours flew from the façade of the building, huge crowds arrived by carriage and automobile for the celebration, indeed the lack of space meant many were forced to remain outside. After the ceremony, József Kiss paused on the steps of the Academy to acknowledge the crowds gathered outside who swamped the entire square. Finally, together with his family he sat in an automobile, which was immediately surrounded by photographers and the cheering masses.
